Book Review:The Secret Diary of a Criminal Lawyer

 BOOK REVIEW ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ THE SECRET DIARY OF A CRIMINAL LAWYER๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅwritten by celebrated, senior journalist/editor/author Mrs. Amrita Mukherjee ❤๐Ÿ™...

This engaging book chronicles 10 real life incidents/cases, in the professional sphere of the iconic criminal lawyer...LATE MR. ASOKE MUKHERJEE ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™...

I will try to give you a spoiler free insight and my analysis of each of those 10 incidents written in a thriller format,in which you will have a feeling of unpredictability riding high, till the last line. These real-life stories not only take shocking twists and turns, but these also deal with how circumstances often push normal people into committing heinous crimes and how a criminal lawyer has to think beyond the obvious to turn a case around in his favour.

As a reader and the actor in me, I always read a book, as I would read a script, picturising it scene by scene, like a movie, almost always, putting myself in place of the characters in the book.

Before I go into the individual cases I would like to encore the word "Gold" which was jokingly said by Late Mr. Asoke Mukherjee, whenever he was asked what was in his 'secret  diary'! 'Gold'-it was...by the truest terms of storytelling, drama, social commentry, thrill, horror and anti-climax!

Case 1:-

The story of a very good man...but... ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Achintya Sarkar...sent shivers down my spine...as I went through the pages. The way everything unfolds will keep you guessing and perspiring till the end!

Case 2:-

The story of A revolutionary... A young boy...in a turbulent time...stories which I have heard from my father as I grew up...a movement which had affected my family too in an extremely negative way! The way the story unfolds will have you shed a tear for sure.

Case 3:-

The story of a charismatic Don...is nothing short of fodder for a commercial potboiler which can be a runaway success. The graph and the elements of this story will keep you amused and entertained, yet bitter inside too.

Case 4:-

A strange story of sibling rivalry, suspicion, fatherhood and the dilemmas we go through amongst all of that.

Case 5:-

The story of greed and violence, shrouded in mystery till date , ending up in a morgue. This case, I felt, reiterates the absolute necessity of a criminal lawyer in our judicial system.

Case 6:-

The story of a blind man, the story of the monster called addiction...the story of how addiction kills you and everyone around you, spiritually if not physically, which I have seen in my family right from my childhood, which has given rise to my social awareness drive globally. This extremely complicated case was tactfully handled by Mr. Mukherjee, yet what we take back from the story is..."the irreversible damage has already been done on both the sides"!

Case 7:-

THIS ONE IS AN ABSOLUTE SHOCKER! The story of 2 teenaged friends turning enemies and how! The story reflects the loss of innocence, simplicity and self respect in a child...something that has become a menace due to the advent of social media, where a child is unknowingly/consciously, literally selling and sacrificing himself/herself for that momentary gratification to creeps all around! The criminal intent in a child's mind is on a all time high...and many a times we as adults are to be blamed too...for enticing, pimping and paving the way for a child towards darkness, for their own perverted benefits! I am fighting against it day in day out...Are you?... No you are not, because more often than not you are just that silent spectator or a party to these dirt!

Case 8:-

This one is another SHOCKER! Never will you faintly imagine where this simple story of an ambitious girl from a middle class family end up to!

Case 9:-

The story of the eternal bond and undying love of a Mother for her child, come what may! The progression of the story will make you infuriated, sad yet overwhelmed inside!

Case 10:-

This is another extremely complicated story of medical crime/negligence...the story of greed, unkindness, malice and that grey area which resides in all of us!

It's amusing and baffling how deftly Late Mr. Asoke Mukherjee tackled these complicated cases, sometimes with humanity and sometimes with legal prowess!

This book is also an eye opener to many essential legal codes and sections which I felt we all should have a basic idea about.

Kudos to you dear Amrita Di for casting the 'Gold' from the 'Goldmine' into such a beautiful and attractive ornament which I am sure everyone would want to decorate their collection with.

P. S. The hungry actor in me would give a right hand to portray Achintya- The Good man and Lalla - The Don whenever this 'Gold' will ornate the silver screen๐Ÿ˜Š!
